- Three to four years of Spanish language study in high school (or two years of strong preparation), or the equivalent
- Gradual development of competence in Spanish over a period of years
- Three types of listening questions based on pictures, short conversations, and more extensive listening selections
- Vocabulary and structure questions testing your knowledge of parts of speech and idiomatic expressions, in sentences or longer paragraphs
- Reading comprehension questions based on passages from fiction, essays, historical works, newspaper or magazine articles, and everyday materials such as advertisements, tickets, and schedules
